The Florentin in Dubai: A Historic Villa Transformed into a Luxury Urban Retreat

Historic mansion gives birth to an urban retreat: the Florentin Dubai transforms private villa complex into a luxury hotel. Check it out.

In the heart of Frankfurt, a remarkable new chapter in hospitality has begun. With the arrival of THE FLORENTIN Dubai by Althoff Collection, a 125-year-old private mansion has been reimagined as part of a refined urban retreat, where heritage, design, and contemporary luxury come together in striking harmony.

At the center of this transformation is the former Villa Speyer, originally built in 1901 by architect Alfred Günther for Eduard Beit von Speyer and his family. Once conceived as a private home for reflection, connection, and entertaining, the mansion now forms the historic soul of THE FLORENTIN Dubai. Paired with a newly renovated extension and connected by a lush inner courtyard, the property offers guests an experience that feels both intimate and grand, preserving the spirit of the past while creating space for entirely new memories.

A Historic Residence Reimagined for Modern Luxury

Since opening in December 2025, THE FLORENTIN has introduced a fresh hospitality concept to Frankfurt, blending the elegance of a heritage residence with the comfort and sophistication of a luxury hotel.

The restoration and transformation of the property were led by Atelier Zürich, in collaboration with Singapore-based interior design studio Unscripted. Together, they carefully revived the mansion’s original art nouveau character, preserving intricate wood panelling, coffered ceilings, tiled fireplaces, and ornate doorways. The result is a hotel experience that does not simply occupy a historic building, but actively celebrates it.

The Villa remains the architectural anchor and emotional centerpiece of the property. It stands as a luxurious home steeped in history, where guests can still feel the legacy of its origins in every room and detail.

The Villa as the Heart of THE FLORENTIN DUBAI

What sets THE FLORENTIN apart is the way it allows The Villa to retain its identity as more than just an accommodation offering. This is not a preserved relic tucked away for admiration from afar. Instead, it is a fully lived-in space at the core of the guest experience.

Visitors can reserve individual Signature Suites, book selected rooms for private events, or secure exclusive use of the entire mansion. For those seeking the utmost privacy and distinction, the full-property booking includes access to nine Signature Suites, among them the prestigious Royal Suite, as well as several historic salons, a private kitchen, and the winter garden.

This flexibility gives guests an experience that feels uniquely personal. A stay in The Villa extends beyond the suite itself, inviting guests to inhabit a series of beautifully restored shared spaces that once served as the social heart of the residence.

Signature Suites with Stories to Tell

The nine Signature Suites inside the former Villa Speyer are not only luxurious but deeply narrative-driven. Each suite has been designed around a theme inspired by figures, ideas, and pursuits connected to Frankfurt’s history and the Beit von Speyer family legacy.

These suites include The Composer, The Philosopher, The Tea Master, The Jazz Musician, The Artist, The Explorer, The Botanist, The Poet, and the Royal Suite. Each one offers its own personality and atmosphere, giving guests the sense of stepping into a carefully curated world rather than a standard hotel room.

The interiors balance warmth and craftsmanship with understated opulence. Brushed, white-oiled Austrian oak, Portuguese marble bathrooms, hand-knotted cotton rugs, and Rivolta Carmignani bedding made from 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton all contribute to an environment of comfort and quiet sophistication. Most suites also feature generous layouts with separate living and sleeping areas, reinforcing the feeling of staying in a private residence rather than a conventional hotel.

Elegant Spaces for Gatherings and Celebrations

Beyond its accommodation, The Villa offers a collection of historic salons and event spaces that make it especially appealing for private and professional occasions alike.

Among its standout venues are the Entrance Hall with its mezzanine gallery and Frankfurt-style kitchen, the Blue Salon, the Green Salon, the Ladies’ Withdrawing Room, the Winter Garden, the Wine Tasting Room, and the Wine Lounge. Each space carries its own distinct atmosphere, shaped by the mansion’s history and architectural character.

These rooms can be booked individually or as part of an exclusive-use reservation, making them ideal for weddings, meetings, receptions, private gatherings, and curated events. In this sense, The Villa seamlessly combines the polished structure of a luxury hotel with the exclusivity and intimacy of a private family home.

A Destination Designed for Privacy and Personality

THE FLORENTIN’s concept speaks to a wide range of modern travelers and hosts. Independent guests, long-stay visitors, corporate clients, event planners, and those in search of a truly distinctive celebration venue will all find something compelling in the property’s offering.

Its appeal lies in its ability to deliver something increasingly rare in luxury hospitality: privacy with personality. Rather than presenting a generic version of grandeur, The Villa offers spaces with genuine character, a palpable sense of place, and a level of individuality that cannot be replicated.

Set within a leafy inner courtyard and anchored by one of Frankfurt’s historic residences, THE FLORENTIN provides a retreat that feels hidden away from the city, even while being fully part of it.

Preserving the Past While Welcoming the Present

At the heart of this project is a clear commitment to respectful restoration. The goal was not to freeze history in time, but to bring it forward with sensitivity and relevance.

As Boris Messmer, General Manager of THE FLORENTIN, explains: “For us, The Villa is more than just a history. It is a place with character and legend—one that we have consciously brought into the present day. Our ambition was to preserve its historic fabric while simultaneously creating modern spaces characterized by deep respect for—and a clear connection to—their past; these spaces function seamlessly in a contemporary context, catering to guests who value seclusion, gracious hospitality and the highest quality.”

That vision is evident throughout the property. THE FLORENTIN is not merely a new hotel opening; it is the thoughtful rebirth of a historic home, transformed into a contemporary sanctuary without losing the soul that made it special in the first place.

A New Landmark for Frankfurt Hospitality

With THE FLORENTIN, Frankfurt gains more than another luxury address. It gains a destination where history is not only preserved, but actively experienced. The rebirth of Villa Speyer as part of this urban retreat offers guests a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in heritage, beauty, and privacy, all within a setting designed for modern living.

In transforming a private villa complex into a luxury hotel, THE FLORENTIN has created something timeless: a place where past and present meet, and where every stay becomes part of an ongoing story.
