Check out the Platinumlist’s January 2026 survey to know what people are choosing this Valentine’s Day in Gulf.

Move over, candlelit restaurants. In the GCC, love is getting a serious soundtrack. Here’s a plot twist that would make any rom-com writer rethink their script: When it comes to Valentine’s Day in the Gulf, more people would rather headbang at a concert than sit across from their date at a white-tablecloth restaurant. According to a January 2026 survey by Platinumlist, a Middle East entertainment discovery platform that polled over 550 respondents. A whopping 42% of people in the region prefer live shows over traditional dinner dates (36%) for the day of love.

And if you’re single? That gap gets even wider: nearly half (47.1%) would pick concert tickets over a reservation. At the same time, only 28.2% want the classic dinner-for-two experience. So, is Cupid trading in his arrows for backstage passes for this year’s Valentine’s Day?

So what’s driving this shift from filet mignon to front-row seats? It turns out the Gulf’s under-30 crowd—which makes up around 55% of the MENA population—is rewriting the Valentine’s playbook entirely. They’re not looking for grand gestures wrapped in red roses; they want experiences that actually mean something.

The numbers back this up. 55.8% of respondents said they attend live events simply “to change the routine.” However, ranking higher than catching up with friends (51.2%) or even celebrating birthdays (31.8%). In a region where the gifting market is projected to balloon to $15 billion by 2031, people are craving authenticity over extravagance. Various studies show that 65% of Gen Z prefer emotional gifts. And what’s more emotionally resonant than losing yourselves in the music you both love?

What A Good Date Looks Like On This Valentine’s Day in Dubai

When surveyors dug into what makes an event genuinely date-worthy? Then, shared taste in music or culture topped the list at 48.8%, followed by venue comfort and organization (39.9%). The message is crystal clear. Skip the contrived “romantic” atmosphere and just book an artist you both actually want to see this Valentine’s Day in Dubai.

As for the perfect setting? 36% chose large arena shows, 25.8% went for outdoor festivals, and 19.1% preferred intimate venues. Whether you’re vibing in a stadium with 20,000 others or discovering an indie artist in a cozy space. The common denominator is you’re experiencing something together, not just sitting across from each other, wondering if the tiramisu is worth the calories.

The Connection Paradox: Everyone Wants to Meet Someone

Here’s where things get interesting, and a bit contradictory. While 65.4% of respondents said concerts and music events are the most natural settings for meeting new people, there’s a massive gap between hope and reality.

33.6% of all respondents, and 41.2% of singles, admitted they haven’t actually met someone new at a concert yet, but they really want to. It’s like everyone’s at the party hoping for a rom-com moment, but nobody’s making the first move.

The biggest barrier? It’s not fear or awkwardness—it’s intention. A solid 42.9% said they attend events purely for the experience, not for socializing. Fair enough. When your favorite artist drops that song you’ve been streaming on repeat, the last thing on your mind is exchanging Instagram handles.

What Can Be Done About This Barrier?

But there’s clearly an appetite for something more structured. Nearly a third (31.1%) wanted icebreaker activities before shows, and 23.3% were into the idea of meetup zones for solo attendees. The demand is there; the infrastructure just hasn’t caught up yet.

“The biggest takeaway for us isn’t that concerts are popular, because we know they are,” says Cosmin Ivan, CEO at Platinumlist. “It’s that people in the Gulf see live events as the place where a real connection could happen. That tells us there’s room to design event experiences that make that easier, whether through better social features in the app or special activities at venues.”

So, What YOU Are Choosing This Valentine’s Day?
