Marugame Udon opened at The Dubai Mall on 1 September 2026. It’s the Japanese udon chain’s fourth UAE restaurant and the first in Downtown Dubai. Bowls start at AED 21, the noodles are made in front of you, and it’s in the Level 2 food court, so there’s no booking and no dress code.

What is Marugame Udon?

Marugame Udon is a Japanese udon chain founded in 2000. It specialises in Sanuki-style udon, the thick, chewy noodles from Japan’s Kagawa Prefecture. The dough uses just three ingredients: flour, water and salt.

The hook is the open kitchen. The noodles are rolled, cut, and boiled in full view, then you slide your tray along the counter, choose a bowl, add tempura, and help yourself to free toppings. It’s fast, cheap, and filling, which is why it works so well in a mall.

Opal Food Concepts runs the UAE franchise. The first branch at City Centre Deira served over 900 bowls on its opening day in July 2025.

How ordering works

1. Grab a tray and pick your udon or rice bowl at the counter. Choose regular or large.
2. Add tempura from the self-serve display. Each piece is priced separately.
3. Add sides like an onsen egg or extra beef.
4. Pay at the till, then head to the free toppings station for green onion, ginger, tempura flakes, shichimi, and fresh chilli.

What to order on your first visit

• For the classic: Kake Udon (AED 21) with shrimp tempura (AED 10). It’s the simplest way to taste the noodles themselves.
• For something richer: Chicken Paitan Udon (AED 39), in a creamy chicken broth.
• If you like heat: Spicy Maze Udon (AED 32), a brothless bowl with a chilli kick.
• If it’s hot outside: cold BK Udon (AED 21), served chilled with a light dashi sauce.
• For kids: Teriyaki Udon (AED 16), then a mango mochi (AED 8).

Wow-Emirates Expert Tip: Don’t pay for extras you can get free. Green onion, ginger, tempura flakes, shichimi and fresh chilli are all at the self-serve toppings station after the till. Add tempura flakes to a plain Kake Udon, and you’ve got a hearty bowl for AED 21.
