In a game-changing move for Dubai’s motorists, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has just awarded a colossal Dhs332 million contract to revolutionize Umm Suqeim Street, a vital thoroughfare in the city. This ambitious project is expected to reduce travel times and enhance regional traffic flow significantly.
A 4.6-Kilometer Lifeline
The Umm Suqeim Street improvement project will stretch across 4.6 kilometres, with a primary focus on the intersections with Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The RTA aims to make commuting a breeze along these major roads.
The Intersection Overhaul
At the heart of this transformation lies the reconstruction of the intersection with Al Barsha South Street, located near Kings School. The RTA plans to construct an 800-meter-long tunnel, expanding Umm Suqeim Street to four lanes in each direction. Additionally, a signal-controlled surface intersection will be installed.
Reduced Travel Times and Increased Capacity
The ultimate goal of this project is to increase Umm Suqeim Street’s traffic capacity to a staggering 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. As a result, the travel time between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road is anticipated to plummet from 9.7 minutes to just 3.8 minutes.
