Escape Dubai Heat At Chillout Ice Lounge, Where Everything Is Carved From Ice

Chillout Ice Lounge, the Middle East’s first sub-zero lounge, is the best place to beat the heat in Dubai at around -6°C. Check out details.

It’s 45°C outside, and the only thing you want is to feel cold again. Here’s the fix: a lounge kept at a steady -6°C, tucked inside Times Square Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. Where the walls, the tables, the seats and even the Dubai skyline are sculpted entirely from ice. The Chillout Ice Lounge has been Dubai’s resident antidote to the summer for a while now. It opened back in 2007 as the Middle East’s first sub-zero lounge, and it still does the one thing no rooftop or beach club can offer in July. A genuine deep freeze in the middle of the desert.

What Are You Walking Into at The Chillout Ice Lounge?

You don’t need to pack a coat. Thermal parkas, gloves and boots are handed out at entry, so jeans and closed-toe shoes are all you really need to bring. Before the main lounge, you pass through a buffer zone set at around 5°C to let your body adjust to the cold, then step into the proper -6°C room.

Inside, it’s all ice and light. Sculptures, illuminated walls, ice seating and tables sit under diffused lighting that shifts colour through the crystal-clear blocks, including a carved version of Dubai’s own skyline. It is, predictably, a photo trap, and that’s half the point.

One nice touch that’s easy to miss: Chillout Ice Lounge was the first ice lounge in the world to serve hot food and drinks. Hot chocolate, soups, sandwiches and desserts, all served while you sit on a block of ice.

How long can you actually last?

Be realistic. Most people stay around 40 to 45 minutes before the cold wins. There’s no strict time limit, so you can step out to warm up and come back in. Treat it as a sharp, novel hour rather than an afternoon-long hang.
