Ramadan 2026 Dates Announced: UAE Confirms Start on February 19

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is ready to welcome Ramadan 2026 on Thursday, February 19. The UAE’s Moon-Sighting Committee has confirmed the commencement of this holy month following the sighting of the crescent moon. This announcement marks the beginning of a month-long spiritual journey, during which millions of Muslims worldwide will engage in fasting, prayer, and acts of charity.

Fasting Hours and Weather Expectations

Ramadan 2026 Dates Announced: UAE Confirms Start on February 19

The fasting hours during Ramadan 2026 will start at approximately 12 hours and 40 minutes at the beginning of the month. However, the hours can slightly differ across the region. As the days progress, fasting hours will gradually increase. This can reach up to 13 hours and 25 minutes by the end of the month. This change is due to the lengthening of daylight hours as Ramadan progresses.

Regarding the weather, temperatures during the early days of Ramadan will range from 18°C to 30°C across the region. The cooler northern winds will provide some relief from the heat. As the month progresses, temperatures are expected to rise. It can reach between 22°C and 34°C, ushering in warmer conditions as spring arrives. While rain is less common, there is still the possibility of occasional showers. This will make Ramadan evenings especially pleasant for outdoor prayers and Iftar gatherings.

The Role of the Moon-Sighting Committee

The UAE Moon-Sighting Committee, officially known as the Shawwal Moon-Sighting Committee, is responsible for observing the crescent moon in the month of Shawwal. This marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, marking the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, President of the UAE Council for Fatwa, the committee comprises leading local scholars, Islamic jurists, and expert astronomers. They convene annually to receive reports and testimonies regarding the moon’s visual sighting, ensuring that the Islamic calendar aligns with lunar cycle-based observations.

Cultural and Communal Celebrations

Ramadan is not only a time for personal reflection but also a month for fostering community ties. Across the UAE, families and communities come together to break their fast with the Iftar meal after sunset. This daily gathering promotes a sense of unity and gratitude for the sustenance provided during the fast. In the UAE, preparations for Ramadan begin well in advance, with special events, charitable drives, and initiatives designed to help those in need.
